I like to think of a Website timeline in a very similar concept to “Authority.” I see it slightly a little bit different, each website has a starting point in time that’s when that site launched, and the domain was registered, the website was built, and then at some point the site was optimized.
Think of your timeline as the progression of events and how well you position on certain terms. There’s a lot of factors that will go into that positioning. how well is your site optimized? Is it built on a technically sound platform? Is it on a secure server? Does this site have content relevant to the keywords that are in the site and how often is the site updated? Are other sites linked to the site as a resource of information?
Attorneys understand that you have “Feed the Beast”. This means you have to give Google and your audience relevant information that’s useful. Think of your timeline in this way, if you build a site and the site stays out there static, and is not updated then it becomes less relevant in comparison to the other sites. Your website is running a marathon of existence and if it exists in multiple planes or spheres of content categories with different key phrases then the website has the chance to grow and depth and breadth in each one of those categories, and it also has the chance to fall back into the negative numbers and when it is not updated.
If you take the position that a website is only optimized once and that’s it, then you fail to see the constant evolving nature of the search index. New sites are being added, other sites are going away, and then many sites gain relevance and lose relevance. Your Website is essentially on an ever-changing playing field. So the results you had a few years ago may not equal the results you have now, unless you followed some core principles of keeping pace with, and outpacing your companions in your competitive subset.
This means you are essentially renting the results and that your timeline indicates you are pursuing a CEO or letting that SEO go. It essentially Ebbs and flows with your practice CARiD are you doing things to help your practice offline but then not translating that to the web and social media? Then you are doing your practice of the service are you letting your website sit static for years and years without a new look and feel? Then you’re missing an opportunity to reach new clients and to keep your timeline updated in fresh.
So your site always has a place on the timeline, and time is always passing, and the more you add to your site and optimize your site with quality content and value, then in turn your relevance increases along your timeline.
