If you didn’t see my recent LinkedIn post highlighting my conversation with Ellen Keiley, CPC in Lawyers Weekly, I want to thank her once again for including me in her column ā€œAsk Ellenā€ and take a minute to expand upon our Q and A about the connection between SEO and PR for attorneys.Ā Ā 

When it comes to SEO and PR, attorneys must not think of them as separate efforts, but rather as layers within the same communications strategy.Ā  Great PR can help to create impactful content that strengthens your brand identity and creates a story about your firm. It’s important to speak in a language your audience understands and then optimize that content online with SEO.Ā 

The next step is to add that content as a layer onto your already optimized Website with SEO, that can help connect your firm’s story and service offerings to what your clients are searching for.Ā  Make sure that you share on your social media channels and your website, adding in the relevant SEO terms and tags so that you and your stories will be found online.

To make these strategies effective, you need to create a feeling of storytelling that never ends. Just like clients don’t ever stop asking questions with search, you have the ability to keep answering them great content.Ā 

This means committing to these strategies with a frequency that keeps you at the top of people’s news feeds on social media and searches online.Ā  When you can do this with regularity, you stay in the front of people’s minds so that when they need legal services, you are at the top of their mental list.

Good PR means great placement and the recognition that comes with it. If someone mentions your firm in a local news piece or you are quoted in an important regional publication it gives potential clients a sense that you are an expert. PR can help to position you and your law firm as experts. Be sure to show this to new clients as part of your story. Get it on your Website and promote it.Ā
